There is a certain artistic appeal to still life photography. More often than not, the photographer can control the elements, objects, composition and angles.
But even more appealing is what can be said in a still life. You can group 3 or 4 objects and encompass a whole concept. Or even a person. What 4 objects would make up the still life that captures who you are?
To quote Steve Martin in The Jerk, “You know, you can tell so much about a person from the way they live.” Take a look at the natural still lifes that exist around you. The ones you make without thinking. Like what’s in the passenger seat of your car. What’s on your kitchen table. The elements are there.
Whether you realize it or not, you are making your own still lifes, composing them, organizing them, making them look pretty. It’s human nature to do so, so you might as well develop an appreciation for them. And be sure to visit our Still Life gallery for more!
