Some recent additions to the Glow Images library coupled with our current Olympic fever brought some interesting images to our attention. These images come from the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. With the political uneasiness and a world war just a few short years away, the photos capture a strange calm before the storm. You can almost see the tension.

What is also striking is the way some sports have changed over the years. For instance, playing basketball outdoors and on what appears to be a dirt surface looks incredibly foreign. The overt military presence in many of the photos is also bizarre by today standards. At the same time, many of the track & field photos look as though they could have been taken yesterday.
