Instagram has made the jump to the big leagues and will be featured in next week’s issue of Sports Illustrated, according to a Mashable article. Photographer Brad Mangin will have a 6-page spread, featuring 18 Instagram photos, from a project he launched at the beginning of MLB spring training. This marks the first time that SI will use Instagram photos in its publication, making it a momentous occasion for both entities.
While it is sure to spark some debate among photographers and sports fans alike, it is difficult to argue with the quality and visual intrigue of the photos. Perhaps, it is because baseball is the most nostalgic of sports, and these photos capture tap into that sentiment.
It would be interesting to see if a similar project dedicated to the NFL would produce such appealing results. There’s only one way to find out…
