On July 18, 1937, Hunter S. Thompson was born. By age 10, he was already publishing his own two-page newspaper, which he sold at 4¢ per copy. With this seemingly innocent beginning, Thompson began a journalistic career that would produce a series of brilliant works that blur between non-fiction and fiction and became known as “Gonzo” journalism.
His meandering and psychedelic writing style has influenced generations of writers and has put him in a class all by himself. He lived a life as outrageous and defiant as his writings.
He died in 2005. He would have been 75 today. Happy birthday, Mr. Thompson!
